HOW TO: Set effective goals… and live a life you love!

I spent some time back in the Midwest over the holiday and was overwhelmed by the positive feedback from friends (and some strangers too) about my newsletter and blog which has inspired me to write this message to you.

My message to you is: you can accomplish anything that you’ve ever imagined. Yes, YOU can! …. and 2011 is your year!

I write articles and posts in my newsletter and blog with the intention to inspire you to create positive change in your life. So, why is this my message? Because I truly believe that with support you can do anything and meet any goal. Often times positive change occurs when you meet a goal.  Think about how you felt after you: ran your first race, lost those last 5 pounds, found a new exercise you loved, found a relationship that fulfilled you …. those amazing, tingling, in-LOVE feelings are indescribable. And addicting!

Until today, I have not fully looked back and reflected on the last 12 months. And after my recent engagement to a wonderful man I received many many messages from friends saying something like: “you must be so proud about all that you have accomplished in 2010.” I thought … “yeah 2010 was great…” But then I stopped to think about how great 2010 REALLY was…

What made 2010 so great? I…

I am not telling you all of this to brag. I am sharing this with you with the intention to inspire you to create a life that you love (that is, if you haven’t already).  So, how did I accomplish all of this in just one year? Here’s how:
1. I set goals
2. I had support

How did I learn how to set effective goals? My health coach. Where did I get the support I needed to accomplish them? My health coach showed me that I can create a tremendous support system in the relationships that I have with others.

I am now a certified health coach and I help others (aka YOU) reach their full potential in the same way that my coaches continue to help me. Yes, I have my own coaches, lets face it - you need support, and so do I. We all do in this game called: LIFE.

So with that said, here are a few tips on how to write effective goals.

  1. Write them in the now as if you were already accomplishing them
  2. Set a “due date”
  3. Make them measurable
  4. Diversify your goal portfolio (set health, relationship, physical, and spirituality based goals)
  5. Go BIG or GO HOME …. learn how to celebrate failures.

Now, all that’s left is that you need SUPPORT. So since the New Year is upon us I would like to offer you a Free Health Consultation. In an hour long consultation over the phone, we will outline your goals for 2011 and determine where your precious time and energy should be spent to improve your life. To schedule, contact me here. You will also find more about what I do on my website here.

OK friends I am off to go take on the day. I am back in San Diego and am headed to a pilates class followed by a long walk and talk with a Friend.

Here’s to a great 2011!
